It was recently brought to my attention by a helper stranger that this is a real book. I had previously suspected it to be a fabrication designed to aid with an elaborate series of clues I’ll explain elsewhere–and for the record I don’t see this upsetting that. But my original thought was that the spine read More and Howe, which it clearly must not. As for which edition the film version proves to be, as in, from which year, that might be hard to say, but of all the ones available for comparison online, this is the only one I’ve seen that features that one logo for the AHMA that appears on the version in the film, of the two overlapping houses. And it happens to be the ’73 version, which would go with all the 237, 23, 37, 73, 732, kinds of references throughout the film.
But it’s worth noting that there are dozens of different “red book” annual releases, which, along with several prominent singular publications by the same name, have lead others to believe whole-heartedly that it was a reference to one of those. This might be one of the best examples of people reading too much into the film’s details when the correct answer is too blurry to make out–a trap I fell into myself.
