APPEARANCE

Seen behind the twins in the games room, in two shots, across 23 seconds (21:47-21:53 + 21:57-22:10).

IDENTITY

Discovered by an anonymous super sleuth and fan of this site, there’s a poster reflecting in the phone booth, which can be seen half-cut-off for a split second during Vivian Kubrick’s Making The Shining documentary, during the sequence where they’re training the ballroom dancers for the ghost ball. Unfortunately, try as I might, I could not dig up the exact poster this was from. The examples of these online are sparse to say the least. So if the date of this particular stock show and rodeo was of significance, or the images inside those window box shapes, that is lost to us, barring some enhanced investigation tactics.

Here’s a link if you wanna read up on the event series, though, besides the fact that it goes back to 1906, the year before the Overlook was built, and besides the fact that it promotes agricultural education, I don’t see any keywords that make me think it goes beyond this. Perhaps we should note that the “stock” part of “stock show” refers to minotaur-esque cattle, while the rodeo obviously has to do with horses. That would make for a fine mashup of the MONARCH and Cowboy posters.

MYTHOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE

My prior sense about this was that it was a window on the wall beside Danny reflecting in the glass, and I suppose it technically might still be, but also I felt that the four-quadrant shape was yet another reference to the Four Directions wheel, or to the minotaur’s didrachm. This addition of a rodeo concept might be a way to connect that whole style phenomenon to the four horsemen of the apocalypse theory.

There’s also the fact that it is reflecting in glass. This could speak to the mirrorformity of the various other artworks in this room.

Again, barring further revelation, I’ll have to leave it there.
