APPEARANCE
27:04-27:19 during Hallorann’s tour, the “Doc” controversy, and the start of the “story room”. Then from 28:23-28:35, 28:45-28:48, 29:02-29:05 and 30:27-30:32 and then 31:27-31:28. It’s onscreen for about 42 seconds total, or 58 if you glob some of the gaps (28:23-29:05) together.
IDENTITY
I wondered for a long time if it’s a strange drawing of a yellow house, pinned to the kitchen cork board.
I’ve noticed upon closer inspection that it seems to fold halfway down the image, like a calendar would do, so perhaps it’s something like that, but it certainly stands out amidst all the anonymous white-and-black papers back there with it.
Perhaps it’ll have something to do with the Red Cross image back there and Danny’s status as a “Doc”. Hallorann’s about to do his Bugs Bunny impression, so maybe those yellow tentacles coming down out of the house shape will have something to do with a rabbit warren or some such.
In more recent times it’s come to resemble a sort of golden-haired old timey German milkmaid kind of figure. And the form of the art has come to strongly resemble a lot of old children’s book art. The golden-haired Wendy of the novel could be being invoked here. Hallorann seems to be saying “story room” as he opens the door, a thought that helped me crystallize my Aarne-Thompson discoveries. So if this turns out to be a page from some children’s book, I think that would be key.
MIRRORFORM SIGNIFICANCE
When Hallorann is impersonating Bugs Bunny, Wendy on the other side is holding the heart of the dead snowcat and reeling in horror. When it’s behind a Wendy being taunted by an imprisoned Jack, it floats for a long time inside the forehead of Watson on the other side. Watson who is dressed exactly like Bugs Bunny (white stripe down the middle of grey sides). In that passage, Ullman is saying, “We’re on our way through to the basement, I promise I won’t keep her very long.” Hallorann then follows with the verbalized “eye scream” offer to Danny, which he confirms with Jack and Wendy. Watson smiles to himself as Danny says he likes “eye scream”. Then the artwork vanishes from his head as the other shot cuts away.

It comes back (behind Wendy) as Hallorann asks “What kinda eye scream you like, doc?” And Danny replies “Chocolate” before it vanishes again.
It’s next swing behind Wendy floats through Ullman’s head at the end of the tour, as he’s saying, “Everyone likes to be on their way as soon as possible.”

Its next appearance behind Wendy as she locks Jack in the “story room” accompanies opposite side Danny finally opening up to Dick, saying “I’m not supposed to [talk about the shining]”, and Dick says, “Who says you ain’t supposed to?” Danny will respond that it’s Tony putting on the gag order, so the earlier connections to Bugs Bunny is drawing nearer to the source of Danny’s shine powers.
It’s final, 2-second appearance pairs with the start of Dick asking “Has Tony ever told you anything about this place? About the Overlook Hotel?” This is at 31:27-31:28, which is one of only a few times that you could have a 237 and 238 jumble from second to second. So maybe it’s a fairy tale about someone who receives visions. And maybe it has something to do with someone who wants to absorb someone else’s magic powers, like the hotel wants Dick’s. Time will tell, I hope.
